B&G’s ForwardScan provides a clear 2D view of the seabed for safe navigation in poorly charted areas. With real-time updates and a forward-looking view to 8 times the current depth, this probe is compatible with B&G’s Vulcan and Zeus MFD systems. ForwardScan offers 180 kHz forward imaging. The sleeve and obturator plug are included. The transducer fits Nautitech 40 Open catamarans.

The Forwardscan transducer with sleeve and cap from B&G lets you sail with confidence, even in poorly charted areas or shallow waters. Thanks to its compatibility with B&G’s Vulcan and Zeus MFD systems, this transducer can be found mainly on Nautitech 40 Open catamarans.

ForwardScan technology

ForwardScan provides forward-looking, two-dimensional imaging of the seabed. Operating at 180 kHz to minimise interference with traditional 200 kHz echo sounders, it offers a maximum forward view of 8 times the current depth. For example, at a depth of 3 metres (10 feet), you can see up to 24 metres (80 feet) ahead. In nominal mode, the view ahead is 4 to 5 times the current depth, giving a clear view of 12 to 15 metres (40 to 50 feet) ahead at a depth of 3 metres (10 feet).

Integration

ForwardScan connects to any B&G Vulcan FS or Zeus3 multifunction display via the StructureScan port. On Zeus2 systems, ForwardScan can be connected via an optional SonarHub sounder module.

Course Line View

The course line view integrates depth data with the course line. This remains displayed on the navigation page of your B&G MFD. This line appears as colour-coded segments, representing deep, mid-depth and shallow water. Customisable depth scales are adapted to your boat’s draught. ForwardScan’s forward distance scale is automatically synchronised with the length of the heading line. In ForwardScan/Navigation split-screen mode, the screen shows the distance from your boat to the end of the course line. This allows you to quickly overlay the data with charted depth and your current course.

Easy installation

ForwardScan can be installed on almost any vessel using a 50.8 mm (2 inch) stainless steel through-hull bracket. This bracket can accommodate hulls up to 25.4 mm (1 inch) thick for 12 degrees of inclination or 19 mm (3/4 inch) for 20 degrees. The kit includes a sleeve and blanking plug, allowing ForwardScan to be supplied as an upgrade option.
